Uncommon adventure tour of Mongolia

 

Majestic mountains, twisting and twinkling river and lakes, untouched wide forest and goldish Gobi desert, the Mongolian environment has a large variety of features. In this 20 days tour you will have the mind-blowing chance to experience all those pristine nature. The main purpose of this tour is to let foreigners experience Mongolian pure traditional nomadic lifestyle, not only the best parts but also the tough parts. This is for whom likes to challenge themselves, adventure and photography.

DETAIL TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1. ARRIVE IN ULAANBAATAR
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar city. Transfer to hotel, Welcome dinner at local restaurant.

DAY 2. BAGA GAZRIIN CHULUU
After breakfast at hotel we will start our trip to Baga Gazriin Chuluu. A picturesque Mountain BagaGazriinChuluu is one of the most attractive areas of the Gobi Desert. The area has got many species of wild animals and birds, such as ibex, argali, vultures, hawks and eagles. At the ruins, there are some mineral water springs and trees on top of the beautiful rocky hills. On the way we will stop for a lunch at Zorgol Khairkhan Mountain, and then we will continue drive to the first campsite of our trip. Once we get there, we will have free time to wander around the mountains and do some hiking. We will stay overnight in this area and have dinner.

 DAY 3. TSAGAAN SUVARGA
After having breakfast at the campsite, we will drive to Tsagaan Suvarga /White Stupa/. In the afternoon, we will reach to the destination and explore to see white stupa and walk around. Tsagaan Suvarga, an amazing series of cliffs, white and pink limestone rock formations taking the appearance of stalagmites up to 30 meters high. It is an excellent site for taking photography of the beautiful panoramic views.

We will stay overnight in this area and have dinner.

 DAY 4. YOLIIN AM /VULTURE VALLEY/
After having breakfast, we will start driving to Vulture valley, which is a deep narrow gorge in the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains of the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. On the way, you will see the most unexpected flowers and plants in the desert. Also, a thousand of camels. Afterwards, we will relax, take a shower and have lunch in the ger camp near by Dalanzadgad city, and then head to Vulture Valley. There is a small natural museum at the entrance of the National park which exhibits a collection of dinosaur eggs, bones, stuffed birds and snow leopard. This place is also very rich by the rare plants.

After we seeing the museum at the entrance, we will go to the Ice gorge. During winter time, the stream freezes several km into the gorge. It remains frozen for most of the year, except late summer. We will see the ice gorge until end of the July.

Drive to the Ger camp, stay there for tonight and have dinner. 

 DAY 5. DRIVE TO KHONGORIIN ELS SAND DUNES
After having breakfast, we will drive to the sand dunes called Khongoriin Els. The Khongoriin Els sand dunes lie north of the Baruun saikhan Mountain in the northern part of the Sevrei and Zuulun Mountains. The KhongoriinEls is one of the largest and most spectacular sand dunes in Mongolia and they are up to 200m high, 12km wide and about 100km long. The largest dunes are at the northwest corner of the range. You can climb to the top of the sand dunes and then slide back down on the plastic bags. The views of the desert from the top are wonderful. Climbing to the top of the dunes during the sunset gives you an amazing panoramic view of the surrounding desert, to the north lies the Khongoriin River. On the way, we will have lunch picnic in the middle of the road, if we are lucky enough, we will see the symbolic animal of the Gobi Desert Black tailed gazelle and Mongolian wild ass.

When we get to sand dune, we will stay in the nomadic family to know more about the Gobi lifestyle of locals. 

Later on ride a camel and climb to the Mongolian highest desert peak to enjoy the sunset.
Overnight stay in the nomadic family and have dinner.

 DAY 6. FLAMING CLIFFS
After having breakfast this morning, we will drive to the Bayanzag which is an important fossil finds have been made. The name was given by American paleontologist Roy Chapman who visited there in the 1920s. The area is the most famous place for finding the first discovery of dinosaur fossils. There is a picturesque forest the place is named after and colorful rocks which is brilliantly colorful. We will stay overnight in Ger camp, lunch and dinner will be served in the camp.

 DAY 7.OROG LAKE
After a relaxing morning at the camp we will drive towards Lake Orog which lies on the north side of the Ikh Bogd Mountain range. The Lake’s shore is a bird paradise. We will camp overnight in the middle of Elsen gezeg small sand dunes along lake shore.
Around the lake we hope to see Black-necked Grebe, Ruddy Shelduck and Garganey, and in the nearby hills such diverse species as Chukar, Saker, and Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush.

Overnight in tents.  

 DAY 8. LAKE BOON TSAGAAN
After breakfast we will begin our journey through this epic landscape. We will begin exploring this bird rich site in the lake, which is the most pristine nature that a few tourists discovered, and you will be the one of them. Amidst truly wonderful scenery this jewel of a lake is home to one of Asia's most enigmatic birds, the striking Relict Gull. We will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy this rare gull in this remote wilderness. Of course, there will be other birds, migrants and residents alike, to distract us. Brown-headed Gulls can occur here along with Great Egret, Eurasian Spoonbill, Whooper and Mute Swans, Bar-headed and Swan Geese, Falcate and Ferruginous Ducks, White-winged Scoter, Pallas's Fish Eagle, Eastern Marsh Harrier, Great Black headed Gull, Gull-billed and Caspian Terns, Pallas's etc...

Lunch and dinner at our campsite. 

 DAY 9. OTGONTENGER MOUNT
After having breakfast this morning, we will drive whole day from Buuntsagaan lake to the Otgontenger mount while is the only peak of the Khangai Range that is covered with a permanent glacier.

There is great opportunity to hiking around the Mount and take photos of nature, plants and fauna. Lunch and dinner at our campsite. 

 DAY 10. FREE RELAXING, ULIASTAI CITY
Drive to Uliastai city after breakfast in the campsite. Uliastai is one of Mongolia’s oldest cities, founded by the Manchus during their reign in Mongolia. Rivers flowing nearby and a lush valley surrounded by mountains complete the picture and make it a great place to camp. Here is the relaxing after the long journey, free time to explore the surroundings and enjoy the Uliastai city.

Lunch and dinner at local restaurant.

Overnight at hotel. 

 DAY 11. BOR HYAR SAND HILLS AND MUKHART RIVER 
Drive to Uliastai city after breakfast in the campsite. Uliastai is one of Mongolia’s oldest cities, founded by the Manchus during their reign in Mongolia. Rivers flowing nearby and a lush valley surrounded by mountains complete the picture and make it a great place to camp. Here is the relaxing after the long journey, free time to explore the surroundings and enjoy the Uliastai city.

Lunch and dinner at local restaurant. Overnight at hotel. 

 DAY 12. KHAR LAKE /BLACK LAKE/
After a relaxing morning at the tented camp we will drive towards Lake Khar.  This turquoise-blue lake offers an astonishing spectacle. It's surrounded by the sand dunes of Bor Khyar that litterally dive into its waters. The Tudevtei mountains at North, Burkhantolgoi and Burgast ones at East, Tovkhosh ones at Southwest, perfectly complete the landscape. Lake Khar is 48 metres (157,48 feet) deep, it stretches on 30 kilometres (18,64 miles) long and 5 to 10 kilometres (3,11 - 6,22 miles) wide. On the lake, you can see two islands: Ikh, "big", and Baga, "small", Avkhash. This fish-rich lake will delight the people, while the birds lovers will watch thirteen endemic species. There watching Red deer, ibex at Agbashisland of the lake. This day is dedicated to a hike all around Lake Khar

 DAY 13. TELMEN LAKE
Drive to beautiful Telmen Lake in Zavkhan Province. There is plenty of beautiful places, specially many type of lakes, historical sites are located. Telmen salt lake is at an altitude of 1789 meters above sea level and covers an area of 194 square km. We will stay at Ger camp at the eastern end of Telmen Lake. Free time for hiking by the lake shore and relaxing in the quiet beauty of nature.

Have dinner at the camp.

DAY 14 - 15. TERKHIIN TSAGAAN NUUR /WHITE LAKE/ AND RELAXING DAY
We will start our trip to see amazing scenery of Terkh White Lake and extinct Khorgo volcano two jewels, which was active for 8000 years. Terkhiin Tsagaan is one of the top 10 travel destination. After seeing extinct Khorgo volcano crater we will have dinner in shore of Terkh white lake’s tourist camp. I’m gratefully to mention that this camp is our own camp so you can feel more like home and we will try our best to serve you.

Second day, we will also stay at the camp, due to Terkh White Lake is surrounded by spectacular scenery of plants, forests, mountains, and fauna. This day is available for everyone for hiking, horse riding, mountain climbing, fishing and swimming.

We will serve lunch and dinner at the camp. Stay overnight at Maikhan Tolgoi tourist Ger camp.

 DAY 16. KHARKHORUM /ERDENE ZUU MONASTERY/
After having breakfast at the camp, we will head to Kharakhorum. On the way to our destination e will stop by Chuluut river canyon,  flows through a 20m-deep steep canyon of basaltic. Taikhar Rock, subject of many local legends. Tsetserleg sum of Arkhangai province.  Lunch at local restaurant.

Mongolia's ancient capital, Karakorum, Chinggis Khaan's fabled city, was founded in 1220 in Orkhon valley, at the crossroads of the Silk Road. It was land of the Mongol Empire governed, until Khubilai Khaan moved the capital  to Beijing. On the ruin of the Karakorum, Mongolian first and largest Buddhist monastery-Erdene Zuu was built in 1586. The most of the construction material ware taken from Karakorum ruin. Erdene Zuu monastery is surrounded 400x400 meters of walls with 108 stupas. 1930’s is the darkest part of Erdenezuu like other monastery in Mongolia when religion was forbidden. Tsaidam monument nearby, Turkish monuments and rock inscriptions erected in 9th century in memory of outstanding fighters for independence. The world-famous place for its wonderful relics of the past.

Stay overnight at guest house at Kharakhorum. 

DAY 17. HUSTAI NATIONAL PARK
After Breakfast, we will visit Kharakhorum museum and Erdene Zuu Monastery and have lunch before we head to Hustai National park. Hustai National park is the home of Mongolian wild horses Przewalski, deer, birds, plants and historical stone monuments, which will take 2 hours tour and return back to camp for the dinner and night rest in ger

Stay overnight at tourist camp.

DAY 18. SHORT DRIVE TO GENGHIS KHAN’S STATE COMPLEX- TERELJ NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast We will drive towards to Ulaanbaatar city. First, we will visit “Genghis Khan Statue Complex” which is currently the biggest (40m high) equestrian statue in the world. There is a recreation area, restaurants, and souvenir shops occupy the base structure. In here, we use an elevator or walk to the head of the horse through chest and back neck of the horse, where we can have farseeing and good panorama view over the complex area. 

After lunch at the statue complex, short drive to Terelj National Park. This is the must go destination for every tourist. There You can see the extraordinary formation of rocks and stones; one of the famous stone is Turtle Rock which looks quite similar as turtle, and visit Ariyabal meditation temple, surrounded by scenic mountains with interesting rock formations and sits at top of the mountain.

Stay overnight in tourist Ger camp at Terelj and have dinner.  

DAY 19. DRIVE BACK TO ULAANBAATAR
After having breakfast drive back to Ulaanbaatar city and transfer to your hotel.  Have lunch in restaurant, visit National History Museum and shopping at Department store.
Attend the “Wonders of Mongolian Art” folk art concert by “Tumen-Ekh” ensemble in the evening. Have dinner and stay overnight at the hotel. 

DAY 20. END OF TOUR
After breakfast departure to Airport.
